Strengthening and maintaining the role of the Russian language in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies activities.
To facilitate communication among the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement components, it is necessary to set up a common language platform. Since some 380 million people in the world are Russian speakers, it is very important to gradually introduce Russian as one of the official working languages of the Movement.
Also, accurate interpretation and translation from all languages spoken by members of Red Cross Societies around the world are needed to ensure that everyone has equal and non-discriminatory access to information about the Movement's activities.
To expand access to the necessary materials (methodological manuals, instructions, strategies and others), the Russian Red Cross organized an English-Russian Linguistic Center. Its task is to translate the Movement's documents into Russian and further distribute them among Russian-speaking National Societies. The center employs professional translators who provide not only written but also simultaneous interpretation at our meetings.
The Russian Red Cross is also ready to assist Russian-speaking representatives of the Movement if they ask for translation.
