The Russian Red Cross (RRC), Russia’s oldest humanitarian organization, will launch its own Master’s program at Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and develop educational programs in the humanitarian field. This was announced on Wednesday, December 20, by Pavel Savchuk, President of the RRC, at a TASS press conference dedicated to the outcomes of the work of RRC in 2003. He also highlighted the extensive efforts of the RRC in providing versatile services and assistance to those in need.
“The Russian Red Cross has already started the process of launching its 2-year Master’s program at Pirogov National Research Medical University, i.e. ‘Management of strategic projects in public health.’ This program is being created in association with the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Social Work of Pirogov University; it will include a wide range of disciplines. We are now looking forward to the meeting of the Pirogov University’s Academic Council to approve the curriculum,” said Pavel Savchuk, President of the Russian Red Cross.
According to the RRC President, the Russian Red Cross aims at strengthening its role in education and becoming a leading provider of educational services in the humanitarian field. The main emphasis is made on the development of educational centers, program enhancement and promoting the international humanitarian law.
At the press conference, Pavel Savchuk also presented the strategy of the organization’s development until 2028 focusing on reinforcing its presence in the fields of humanitarian services and support. The RRC plans to develop regional branches, implement new humanitarian initiatives in communities and enhance programs of assistance to prisoners and ex-prisoners.
“We are continuing to develop our regional and local branches, we will start supporting the humanitarian initiatives in communities. We are interested in having a uniform wide range of humanitarian services across the country and in providing qualitative and timely assistance to all people in need,” stated the RRC President.
Additional priorities of the RRC include first psychological aid and psychosocial support and reinforcement of advocacy of humanitarian action among authorities. The RRC is also actively implementing digital solutions for to efficiently develop and scale its activities.
Special attention is paid to the support of prisoners and ex-prisoners. The RRC regional branches provide assistance in a broad range of ways including through social rehabilitation centers. The RRC plans to expand its program of resocialization and integration and actively participate in public oversight commissions.
According to Pavel Savchuk, by 2028, the RRC strives to become a reliable partner for the government in the humanitarian field, a key channel of social responsibility for business and a source of experience for other non-profit organizations. He noted that the RRC strategy is aimed at transforming changes making the RRC more efficient, open, sustainable and to prepare it for early response to the current challenges.
