The Russian Red Cross starts the first supplies of medical equipment to health facilities to the Kursk region
      27.01.2025

The Russian Red Cross (the RRC) started the first supplied of last-generation medical equipment to health facilities to the Kursk region. The first batch, including high-tech equipment, has already been put into operation and is being used by professionals in the region. The supplies are scheduled to be completed by the end of April. Its total cost amounts to RUB 50 mln.

“We are aware of the importance to medical staff to have access to modern equipment that helps save lives. In particular, the ophthalmic microscope delivered to the Kursk Regional Ophthalmologic Center will make it feasible to perform the most difficult surgeries with high precision. New blood containers will make it possible to prepare a greater number of blood components, which are so important for patients. It is especially important to support the resilience of the health system in critical environments during emergencies, when the number of people affected increases. Our steps are aimed at supporting thousands of people whose health depends on the quality of medical care and strengthening the health system of the region,as a whole”, accentuated Pavel Savchuk, the president of the Russian Red Cross and member to the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

Pavel Savchuk highlighted that the needs of health care facilitieswere deeply analyzed jointly the regional Ministry of Health, given the current situation in the region.

As part of the first supply to the Kursk Regional Ophthalmology Center, an ophthalmic microscope worth of almost RUB 12 mlnwas put into operation. The device is equipped with a modern illumination system, built-in camera and optical components, which ensure maximum accuracy and quality of surgical operations. This device is especially important for patients with eye injuries due to shrapnel wounds, which are typical for the current situation in the region. The device will allow preserving the eyeball in such injuries, which is critical for the patients’quality of life. Beyond that, this microscope will serve to thousands of residents in peacetime as well. Up to 12 surgeries can be performed daily, including cataract surgery, which is necessary for numerous elderly patients.

“The availability of urgently needed medical equipment will significantly reduce the waiting time for scheduled hospitalization at the ophthalmology center for cataracts for residents of the region. Previously, we had only one ophthalmologic microsurgical microscope at our disposal. I would like to express my gratitude to the Russian Red Cross for this gift, which shall help thousands of patients to keep their eyes healthy”, commented Elena Tolmacheva, the physician in chief of the Kursk Regional Ophthalmologic Hospital

Concurrently, the Kursk Regional Clinical Blood Center received 1,400 sets for storage of donor blood with integrated leukocyte filters. This equipment shall assist to cope more efficiently with the increased need for blood storage due to the current situation in the region.
