Since August 2024, the Russian Red Cross ascertained the fate and restored family links with 2,502 people, who lost family contacts as a result of the emergency in the Kursk region.
Russian Red Cross staff made more than 15,500 outgoing calls to process applications and support families. As a matter of course, data search and validation are carried out, as well as psychological support is provided to those experiencing anxiety and uncertainty.
“As of today, our work goes beyond compiling lists and analyzing open sources. Now, we are implementing address-based searches. In other words, professionals check specific addresses that were given by relatives when they applied for tracing a person. In many cases, elderly people may have lost their means of communication while staying in the border areas of the Kursk region. We are carrying out this work, among other things, in close cooperation with the heads of municipalities, who help us clarify information and confirm whether people are staying at their place of residence”, commented Pavel SAVCHUK, the President of the Russian Red Cross.
The Russian Red Cross works in close cooperation with public authorities, namely government of the Kursk region, regional departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as with the Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Earlier, 124 people were returned from the territory of Ukraine during four humanitarian missions 2024-2025 to return residents of the Kursk region.
Every person can apply to trace and search for civilians whose contact was lost as a result of the emergency in the Kursk region via the website of the Russian Red Cross or by calling the toll-free hotline 8(800)234-07-07-07. The officials of the RFL department are working in the RRC regional branch in the Kursk region. The staff is ready to provide assistance on the ground.
The Russian Red Cross also warns about cases of fraud and urges not to publish information about those who search and wanted persons in social networks and public access. It shall be emphasized that the Russian Red Cross provides all assistance, including restoring family links, free of charge. Operators of the National Society make calls only from official phone numbers.
