The Russian Red Cross (RRC) has assisted 46 people who were previously reported missing due to the emergency situation in the Kursk region. They returned to Russia from Ukraine as a result of the coordinated efforts of all participants in the humanitarian mission. Upon arrival, they received humanitarian aid, psychological support, and assistance from family reunification specialists in reestablishing contact with their relatives.
“Russian Red Cross has been providing assistance to those affected by the emergency in the Kursk region since the very beginning. Our staff continues to work on the ground, helping people reconnect and ensuring that everyone’s rights are protected. This mission marks another important step in our commitment to supporting those in need and providing them with essential assistance. After a meticulous three-month effort, 46 residents of Sudzhansky District have returned to Russia, including children of various ages. The Russian Red Cross has provided them with the necessary support and will continue to do so. We are grateful to all our partners for their cooperation and their readiness to respond promptly to emerging challenges”, said Pavel Savchuk, the president of the Russian Red Cross.
The humanitarian mission was organized with the participation of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova; the International Committee of the Red Cross; the Ukrainian Red Cross; the Government of the Kursk Region; the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Kursk Region; and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Kursk Region.
Since early August, the Russian Red Cross has received more than 6,000 requests to search for missing persons, including elderly individuals living alone and neighbours. To date, family connections have been restored, and the fate of 1,253 people has been reliably established. The work to reconnect families and provide assistance to those affected will continue at all levels in collaboration with partners and government agencies.
