The Russian Red Cross (the RRC) has opened deposit bank accounts in Sberbank for all children who lost their parents as a result of the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall venue in the Moscow region. Each underage child was transferred RUB 5 million.
“As we planned, by the end of August 2024, the Russian Red Cross managed to open deposit bank accounts for all children whose parents died during this terrorist attack. RUB 5 million were transferred for each of all 74 bank accounts”, commented the President of the Russian Red Cross Pavel SAVCHUK.
The deposit rate is 17.4% per annum. The children will be able to withdraw the funds fr om the deposits once they reach the age of majority. But the interest accrued on the deposit can be withdrawn on a monthly basis. Teenagers over 14 years old will be able to do it by their own discretion. For children and teenagers under 14 years of age, the deposit amount as well as the amount of interest on the deposit can be withdrawn by their legal representatives. But this can be done only upon the permission of the Child Protection authorities to be used for the children’s needs.
“When children and teenagers turn 18, there will be no restrictions on how they can spend the funds they receive. Each of them may have different needs and aspirations. And these funds can be useful when the child becomes an adult. For example, for higher education, real estate purchase and other purposes”, added Pavel SAVCHUK.
The Russian Red Cross continues to provide other measures of support to the victims of the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall venue, the relatives and beloved ones of the victims. 97 families received urgent financial aid, 384 families received voucher assistance to buy food products and medicines. More than 273 one-time payments were also allocated. The amount of payments varied from RUB 200,000 to RUB 5 million. Almost 85 people were paid for health resort treatment and recreational vacations within Russia. Beyond that, 2 families wh ere children have lost one or both parents, applied to the RRC for assistance in purchasing a real estate for living.
