The Russian Red Cross (RRC) is providing assistance to evacuated residents of Sudzha and other settlements in the Kursk region. The Kursk regional branch of the RRC has already collected the primary needs of evacuated residents and has begun issuing humanitarian kits. In the near future support measures including for those placed in temporary accommodation points s will be expanded.

A state of emergency was introduced in the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, acting Head of the Region, announced on August 7. A massive attack on the Kursk region began on August 6. A missile danger has been repeatedly declared in the region; there are dead. According to the Russian Ministry of Health, more than 30 people were injured, including children. Some people were evacuated and placed in temporary accommodation points (TAPs).

On the first day the team of the Kursk regional branch of the RRC, consisting of 10 specialists, met with residents of the temporary accommodation points, collected their needs and distributed humanitarian kits. The kits included food and hygiene products. The chairman of the Kursk regional branch of the RRC, Alexey Gaponov, works in the border area as part of the air ambulance brigade.

«The team of the Kursk regional office daily visits all temporary accommodation points where evacuees are located. The RRC also receives and processes requests from citizens who have accommodated themselves; there are several thousand of them. All families receive large packages of food, hygiene products and bedding from pre-prepared emergency stocks. We work in close cooperation with local authorities and social services to provide assistance to those in need as quickly and efficiently as possible», said Alexey Gaponov, chairman of the Kursk regional branch of Russian Red Cross.

Specialists from the Kursk regional branch of the RRC also began working with children housed in temporary accommodation points - they are provided with psychological support; leisure activities are organized for them. Anyone in need can also receive psychological support on the 24-hour the RRC hotline at 8 800 250-18-59.

According to the director of the emergency response department, Alexey Pikul, «the federal emergency response team of the Russian Red Cross has already arrived in the region and will be re-equipping temporary accommodation points, including household appliances and utensils». «We will improve people’s lives and organize special rooms for children. We also plan to equip medical offices with tonometers, glucometers and thermometers. We have already begun providing targeted assistance to evacuees from border villages and towns who are staying with relatives or friends. Now our primary task is to provide the necessary support to all victims as soon as possible», said Alexey Pikul.

Residents of the border area urgently left their homes, many of them were injured and in need of clothing and medicine. The regional department has announced a fundraiser for targeted assistance. You can make a donation using the link or details:
