The Russian Red Cross is drying over 40 houses in the Orenburg region
      07.05.2024

The Russian Red Cross (the RRC) has launched the drying process for the facilities affected by the flooding in the Orenburg region. More than 40 buildings of private and public infrastructure are currently being dried out.

“Our Russian Red Cross emergency response team is currently drying out 42 buildings, including two public hospitals, one of them providing medical services not only for residents of the town of Orsk, but also for residents from other settlements. Our RRC regional branch in Orenburg is also providing humanitarian aid and psychosocial support to the affected population”, accentuated Pavel SAVCHUK, the President of the Russian Red Cross.

According to Alexei PIKUL, Head of the RRC Emergency Response Department, “3 houses have already been completely dried out, and the drying process continues. In order to be able to provide this assistance, we have purchased 100 jet heaters and 50 generators. These is the most needed equipment currently. We are working in close cooperation with the regional authorities to provide the maximum number of people with our help and support. To dry out the public hospitals is an extremely important and difficult task, because many people are treated there, including those from other towns and settlements of the region. It takes more time as we face a large area of hospital basements, which were flooded”.

Beyond that, those suffered from the recent floods continue to receive humanitarian and psychological assistance. As of today, the RRC team has distributed 5,000 vouchers for clothing for children and adults, as well as 1,000 food and 1,000 hygiene kits to those in need.

Also, 155 tons of drinking water, 14.2 tons of infant formula and 1,100 bedding items, such as beds, pillows and mattresses were distributed among the flood victims.

The RRC team continues to provide all those in need with psychosocial support. More than 140 people attended individual sessions with psychologists, and 7 people participated in group therapy. All those in need can also receive psychological first aid and psychosocial support via the 24-hour nationwide hotline of the Russian Red Cross psychological service at 8 (800) 250-18-59.

The RRC regional branch in the Orenburg region is also raising funds to help the victims. To date, more than RUB 62 million have been raised to support families affected by the disaster. These funds are being used to provide targeted assistance and support to the most vulnerable groups of those suffered. In addition, funds are being allocated to organize the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid and to re-equip temporary accommodation points (TAPs) and long-term accommodation facilities. In particular, 4,860 items of household chemicals, 16 TV sets and 16 microwaves were delivered to the TAPs.
