The Russian Red Cross (the RRC) has provided humanitarian aid to nearly 1,400 people affected by the typhoon in Primorsky Krai. Local residents whose homes were flooded received 800 food and hygiene kits, 7,200 bottles of drinking water, as well as basic necessities and household items.
On Friday, August 25, a federal emergency regime was introduced in Primorsky Krai due to the ongoing heavy rains. According to the governor of Primorsky Krai, more than 5 thousand houses have been affected, more than 2.5 thousand people have been evacuated.
"Over the past week, the Russian Red Cross has already issued 1,600 humanitarian kits for those affected by the downpours in Primorsky Krai. However, the elements are not subsiding, the region has already introduced a federal emergency regime, and we will continue to provide assistance to those in need. Therefore, we call on all concerned people to join our work: bring humanitarian aid to our regional branch or transfer a donation to our national collection, which we organized together with the government of the region", said Pavel Savchuk, President of the Russian Red Cross.
A team from the Central Office of the Russian Red Cross has been working in Primorsky Krai since August 15. During this time, the RRC has distributed 800 food kits, each weighing 14 kg and including 21 items, 800 hygiene kits of 9 items, 1.2 thousand children's hygiene items, 7.2 thousand bottles of drinking water, 500 bedding sets, including a set of bed linen, a pillow and a blanket, to people affected byflood.
In addition, RRC provided over 100 elementary school students with school backpacks. Assistance was also provided to a kindergarten in the Oktyabrsky municipal district, which is located in a flooded area. In particular, RRC provided the children with new sanitary equipment. In addition, RRC purchased over 70 cots for people living in their flooded homes.
He also added: "All the money raised will be spent on humanitarian assistance to the affected people and closing their priority needs."
In addition to the humanitarian aid already provided, RRC plans to give out another 500 bedding kits, 1,000 food kits and 1,000 hygiene kits to people affected by flood.
