The Russian Red Cross delivers humanitarian aid to near-border areas of the Kursk region
      11.02.2025

The representatives of the Russian Red Cross (RRC) have delivered humanitarian aid to the residents of the Rylskydistrict and the Belovsky district and to the persons who had to leave their houses and now reside in Zheleznogorsk of the Kursk region. Over 1,000 people have received support.

A team of the Russian Red Cross traveled through nine villages of the Rylsky district, where they provided assistance to more than 850 people, and to five villages of the Belovsky district, where they provided support to 115 people. Humanitarian aid kits for additional four villages of the Belovsky district were passed to the district administration for further distribution. In Zheleznogorsk, 66 people in need of technical rehabilitation equipment, blood pressure monitors and glucose meters received assistance

“We understand how important it is to provide assistance to those who remain in their homes in difficult conditions, especially in rural areas where there are no shops and humanitarian centers. Therefore, as soon as we had safe access to these areas, we delivered humanitarian aid and provided support to residents of remote villages, disabled people and the elderly, for whom access to food, technical means of rehabilitation, diagnostic and rehabilitation equipment is particularly difficult. We will continue supporting people in the near-border areas by providing not only food, basic necessities, and family reunification, but also psychosocial support,” noted Pavel Savchuk, President of the Russian Red Cross.

The Russian Red Cross collected aid requests in advance, jointly with the district administrations and village council heads, in order to deliver targeted assistance. Among the provided goods are child and adult care products, medicines, rehabilitation equipment, including wheelchairs, walker frames, walking sticks, bedsore relief mattresses.

In addition to humanitarian aid, a medical team led by Alexey Gaponov, Chairman of the Kursk Regional Branch of the Russian Red Cross, an anesthesiologist and an intensive care physician, visited the villages. The medical team conducted examinations of elderly and disabled people, including blood pressure, pulse, saturation, glucose measurement and ECG. The specialists provided advice to relatives of bedridden patients on care issues and selected the necessary technical means of rehabilitation. For the first time, an ambulance of the Russian Red Cross was used, which enables, if necessary, evacuating people to temporary accommodation facilities.

The Russian Red Cross continues working on the restoration of family links of Kursk residents. Since August 2024, the RRChas received more than 7,000 search requests for missing persons, though several relatives may concurrently search for the same person, and sometimes family members are looking for each other. Since August 2024, the Russian Red Cross has helped to find and restore links with more than 1,450 people who lost contact with their families as a result of the emergency situation in the Kursk region. The search is conducted in cooperation with federal and regional agencies, including the Government of the Kursk region and the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation. The RRC also cooperates with the International Committee of the Red Cross, which is a partner in restoring family links and conducts humanitarian activities in Ukraine. The Russian Red Cross does not have physical access to territories beyond the control of the Russian Federation, but uses all available tools to assist in the search for missing persons, working with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, volunteers and local residents.
