The Russian Red Cross delivers additional humanitarian aid for RUB 19.1 million to the Belgorod region
      18.04.2024

The Russian Red Cross (the RRC), which is the oldest humanitarian agency in Russia, delivered to the Belgorod region additional humanitarian aid for RUB 19.1 million aimed at helping the local inhabitants affected by shelling.

The RRC managed to deliver to the region 500 vouchers for RUB 5,000 to buy clothes, 400 vouchers for RUB 5,000 to buy food products at a local chain of grocery stores, as well as 1,000 hygiene kits, food kits, towels and bedding kits (bed linens, blankets, towels and pillows). At an early date, the Russian Red Cross is expected to provide another 2,500 vouchers for RUB 5,000 to be used at a local chain of grocery stores to help the Belgorod region’s residents.  Beyond that, 6 pallets of clothes, as well as 1 pallet of personal hygiene products and 1 pallet of baby diapers have already been delivered to the Belgorod region due to the support of Moscow volunteers’ organization “Mosvolonter”.

“The Russian Red Cross strives to respond promptly to the changing needs of those affected, actively adapting our means of assistance in order to provide the most optimal support. Collectively with regional authorities, we provide assistance to those living in areas under shelling, including in temporary accommodation points. Our main task is not just to deliver the necessary goods, but also to establish the system of targeted assistance that shall allow us to support most effectively those who find themselves in extremely difficult life circumstances”, accentuated Pavel Savchuk, the President of the Russian Red Cross.

Pavel Savhcuk mentioned that the pallets with clothes have different sizes of clothes and are multi-seasonal. In total, there were delivered 3,797 items of clothing, 200 pairs of shoes, 1,346 items of personal hygiene products, 94 packages of baby diapers.

The Russian Red Cross provides assistance to the victims of shelling in Russian border regions on a targeted basis, i.e. upon request from those in need. Beyond that, the RRC delivers humanitarian aid to temporary accommodation points. The special attention is devoted to the most vulnerable categories of the population, including elderly citizens, pregnant women and large families. For example, a wheelchair was handed over to an evacuated elderly woman from Belgorod.

Additionally, the Russian Red Cross continues to collect donations and humanitarian goods to help those affected by the shelling. The allocated funds are used to purchase and deliver humanitarian aid to the region. Each and every one can join the collection of donations on the website of the Russian Red Cross. The office to provide humanitarian aid and apply for help is situated at the address: 181 Bogdan Khmelnitsky avenue, the city of Belgorod, Russia.

On April 12, during the live broadcast of the show “The Voice”, the viewers’ vote was held. The income from the voting joined by the Russian Channel One and other partners shall be transferred to the Russian Red Cross. The funds will be used to help residents of the Belgorod region and other border regions affected by shelling.

The Russian Red Cross is also actively engaged in providing psychological assistance and psychosocial support to those suffered. The toll-free hotline of the Russian Red Cross is 8 (800) 234-07-07-07.

“We do understand that people find themselves under stress. The specialists and volunteers of the Russian Red Cross provide psychological assistance and psychosocial support to everyone who needs it. There is a hotline that can be contacted. We have specialists and volunteers in regional branches, as well”, emphasized the President of the Russian Red Cross.

The Russian Red Cross has been providing assistance to the local inhabitants of the Belgorod region on a permanent basis since 2022, intensifying its assistance since the beginning of shelling. In 2023 alone, more than 32,000 people received assistance. In 2023, almost 27,000 Belgorod residents received cash assistance from RUB 5,000 to RUB 15,000 depending on the number of family members. About 50 tons of humanitarian goods were delivered to the region during this period.
