      07.05.2025

The Russian Red Cross and the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan sign an agreement on mutual understanding aimed at developing a long-term humanitarian partnership. The document covers key areas of interaction such as support to vulnerable groups, prevention of socially significant diseases, development of volunteer movement, restoring family links and enhancing community resilience to emergencies.

The agreement on cooperation has been signed by Pavel SAVCHUK, the President of the Russian Red Cross, and Khamid KARIMOV, the Chairman of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan in the city of Tashkent during a working visit of the Russian Red Cross delegation to Uzbekistan.

“We have common goals with our colleagues from Uzbekistan, such as support to the most vulnerable groups of population in our countries. The signed agreement is the beginning of a deeper and more systematic interaction. Our joint work can expand the scope of assistance, improve the training of volunteers, and ensure a more effective response in case of emergencies. We also have agreed to develop joint programs, share knowledge, train specialists, as well as launch new initiatives to support those in need. I do believe that our cooperation shall become a solid platform for new humanitarian solutions and joint responses to challenges faced by people in Russia, Uzbekistan and other countries”, commented Pavel SAVCHUK, the President of the Russian Red Cross.

Under this agreement, both National Societies are planning to implement joint projects, hold seminars and trainings, share guidelines and participate in international forums. It is also envisaged to establish working groups on key issues such as development of volunteer movement, prevention of infectious diseases and dissemination of knowledge about the Fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

A special area of interaction is the cooperation in restoring family links, which is actively conducted by the tracing and search services of both National Societies.

“The Russian Red Cross are not just colleagues for us, but traditional partners. We share many years of interaction based on trust and a shared strive to help people. We have already implemented a certain number of initiatives, especially in the sensitive issue of restoring family links. I am confident that the signed agreement will provide us with new opportunities to join forces in a great variety of issues, from emergency response to volunteering and disease prevention”, said Khamid KARIMOV, the Chairman of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan.

The delegation of the Russian Red Cross also held working meetings at the Headquarters of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan in the capital city of Tashkent to discuss the prospects of interaction with the Chairman Khamid KARIMOV. The visit shall be continued on May 8 at a regional branch of the Red Crescent Society of Uzbekistan in the city of Samarkand. The officials of both National Societies will familiarize themselves with local humanitarian work in practice and discuss possible points of development for future projects.

The agreement is stipulated for a period of three years and shall be automatically extended for subsequent periods upon mutual consent of both parties. The present agreement depicts the commitment of these National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to a sustainable partnership based upon the principles of humanity, mutual respect and a shared strive to help those who are in particular need.
