The third phase of training for the Russian Red Cross (RRC) federal emergency response team will take place in the Moscow region on 19-22 February and will bring together subject matter experts from more than 20 regions. For four days, they will be practising psychological first aid and first aid to victims in emergency situations to improve the effectiveness of the response.
The Federal Emergency Response Team of the Russian Red Cross started to be formed last autumn. It includes over 40 people from 21 regions of the country. To ensure prompt response to emergencies and competent preparation for them, the team constantly undergoes training sessions, learns new areas, improves and deepens its knowledge and skills.
Alexey Pikul, Head of the Emergency Response Department of the Russian Red Cross, said that constant effective training improves the readiness of the Russian Red Cross team to respond immediately and allows them to effectively provide critical support to people in emergency situations.
«This training plays a key role in enhancing the skills of our team. It covers important aspects of first aid and effective communication in emergency situations. This is to ensure that our team has all the necessary knowledge and skills to provide first aid in a variety of situations. We should not forget that competent psychological first aid and psychosocial support to the victims are equally important in emergency response. A special place in the training process is given to self-help, both first aid and psychological care. The participants of the group should understand and realise the risks of working in emergency situations and be able to deal with them correctly, preserving their own physical and psychological health», said Alexey Pikul.
During the training, participants will learn the psychological aspects of emergency response, including how to restore psychological balance in extreme conditions and effective methods of communication with victims. In addition, participants will update their knowledge of acute stress reactions that can occur in both survivors and responders.
«The training will include understanding the psychophysiology of stress, effective methods of communication with victims, and mastering the tools of psychological first aid. We will pay special attention to the principles of helping children and adolescents, as well as the development of emotional intelligence», – emphasised the Head of the Emergency Response Department of the Russian Red Cross
As part of the first aid block, participants will learn how to analyse the condition of a casualty and rehearse the basic rules and principles of first aid using both improvised and standard equipment. In addition, the training will teach how to work in a team when carrying out medical evacuation of victims as part of an emergency response team.
