The Russian Red Cross (RRC) has provided urgent humanitarian assistance to 25 residence of the Kursk region who have returned to Russia from Ukraine. This support includes facilitating communication with relatives, offering psychological assistance and initiating targeted aid based on the individual needs of each person.
Among those who have returned a primarily elderly individuals, including those with chronic illnesses and limited mobility. Specialized transportation, including ambulances from the Kursk Regional Branch of RRC, has been deployed to assist severely affected individuals. Under medical supervision, they are being transferred to hospitals in the city of Kursk.
The remaining returnees have been accommodated in a hotel on the way to the Kursk region. Specialists from RRC’s Family Restoring Links are assisting individuals in promptly reconnecting with their relatives, even in cases were contacting information has been lost.
The personnel of the Russian Red Cross are available around the clock in the hotel lobby. Specialists are always ready to respond quickly to people’s questions, provide guidance on further travel arrangements, and offer information on social support. Individuals can ask for help at any time - for instance, to help with carrying belongings, obtaining information on restoring lost documents, or learning about accessible aid programs.
Furthermore, psychological support is readily available from RRC psychologists, who are providing emergency assistance to those experiencing acute stress reactions.
Tomorrow all returnees will proceed to the Kursk region. They will be accompanied by a team from RRC’s Emergency Response Department, including psychologists and Family Restoring Links specialists. During the way, appeals for additional support will be collected, enabling individuals to receive expanded humanitarian and hygiene kits, as well as targeted assistance such as rehabilitation equipment.
The humanitarian mission was organized with the participation of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Ukrainian Red Cross, the Government of the Kursk region, the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters of the Kursk region, and Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kursk Region.
