Russian Red Cross launches training for social and medical workers in the regions.
      08.08.2022

The Russian Red Cross (RRC), the oldest humanitarian organization in Russia, has launched a professional training program for nurses, caregivers, and social workers for all those interested. Theory will be taught on the platform of the Red Cross Academy, and practice will take place in educational centers of regional branches of the Russian Red Cross.

The first wave of the educational program will start in 22 regions of Russia, and by the end of the year the training will be launched in 50 regions of the country.

"There is a high need in Russia to care for people who have partially or completely lost the ability to look after themselves, as well as for patients who need help during recovery. That's why we decided to launch our own training program. It is open to more than 5,000 people who want to upgrade their skills or get a new job. Anyone over 18 years of age and with a completed secondary education will be able to take the training," stressed Victoria Makarchuk, First Vice-President of the Russian Red Cross.

She added that at the end of the training, all students will pass qualifying exams, and then receive official certificates.

The training is divided into two parts - theory and practice. During the theoretical part, which takes place on the platform of the Red Cross Academy, trainees will learn about current requirements of the labor market, regional employment promotion measures and modern technologies used in professional environment, learn about health and safety requirements, ethical norms when assisting needy persons, as well as get answers to questions about the status of the self-employed. The theoretical part ends with a test.

The practical part will take place in the training centers of 50 regional branches of the Russian Red Cross, which will be open until the end of the year.

There is a tuition fee for the program of 4,990 rubles for social workers and caregivers, and 5,690 rubles for nurses. However, up to 14 people per course from regional social protection agencies will be able to take the training for free.

In the classroom, nursing students will learn how to properly desinfect hands and sterilize medical devices, prepare and store disinfectant solutions, care for therapeutic and surgical inpatients, monitor functional status of patients, and provide emergency care.

Would-be caregivers will learn how to properly use a functional bed, wheelchair, and mobility aids to accompany and move patients, perform hygienic procedures, and provide first aid. Those taking the Social Worker course will be acquainted with the Code of Ethics for Social Workers, take a practical session on age-specific psychology, learn how to help relatives of children with disabilities, and much more.
