The delegation of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society (IFRC) together with the Russian Red Cross (RRC) - the oldest humanitarian organization in Russia – has visited the temporary accommodation point in the Kaluga region and the Russian Red Cross Migration Centre.
The international delegation was led by IFRC Deputy Secretary General Xavier Castellanos. In the Kaluga region, the representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies talked to those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine living in the temporary accommodation centre (TAP), as well as with the TAP’s administration and local authorities.
"I have had a chance to talk to displaced people living in the temporally accommodation centre in Kaluga and listened to their concerns. With winter already well on its way, the humanitarian needs are growing, and I know the Russian Red Cross will be there to support the people who need it,” said the IFRC Under Secretary General Xavier Castellanos.
In addition to that, the representatives of the IFRC visited the Russian Red Cross Migration Center, which also works as a public reception office. Refugees, displaced persons, migrants and stateless persons from any country can apply for help there.
“The visit this week was really important for us to see the work of the Russian Red Cross. I commend their work, particularly that the National Society has prioritised putting dignity first, and the way they are supporting the mental health of vulnerable families and ensuring that they have access to essentials like food, hygiene item and warm clothing."
The public reception office of the Russian Red Cross provides not only humanitarian assistance, legal advice and psychosocial support, but also social accompaniment support and access to medical services. This means that the Russian Red Cross staff, learning the needs of an individual applicant, draw up a route of how to help this person. There is also the RRC Education Center for children of refugees and migrants based at the RRC Migration Center.
