Russian Red Cross Deployed Mobile Aid Stations in Derbent District of Dagestan Following Dam Breach
      07.04.2026

The Russian Red Cross (hereinafter RRC) has deployed two mobile aid stations near the settlement of Mamedkala in Derbent District, where conditions have sharply deteriorated following the breach of the dam at Gedzhukh Reservoir. The facilities serve as an operational volunteer coordination hub for emergency response, a center for coordinating volunteers supporting affected residents, and a mobile humanitarian aid warehouse.

The RRC federal emergency response team has joined the ongoing response in the area. The team has extensive experience in managing the consequences of floods across different regions of Russia. Staff and volunteers of the organisation are working in close coordination with the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Republic of Dagestan, the administration of Derbent District, and the regional operational headquarters.

Particular attention is being given to targeted assistance for those who need it most, including families with children, elderly people and persons with limited mobility. On 5 April, the RRC federal emergency response team evacuated 25 people, including 14 children, from flooded areas of Makhachkala.

A shipment of humanitarian aid has already been sent to the affected area. Zolotoye Yabloko (Gold Apple), a beauty retailer, provided a large consignment of hygiene supplies (15 tonnes), including around 20,000 items such as shower gels, shampoos, toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap and other personal hygiene products. Some of these items have already been assembled into humanitarian kits and delivered to Mamedkala. On 6 April, the RRC Dagestan regional branch transported 3 tonnes of humanitarian cargo to the settlement, including food, hygiene items and water, provided by its partner, the Manara charitable foundation from Stavropol.

Sovcombank provided financial support to the RRC to procure additional equipment and supplies for emergency response operations. Partner organisations also delivered a consignment of clothing vouchers to the regional branch.

The RRC and Avito have also launched a joint campaign, #IHelp (#Япомогаю). Users can donate essential items free of charge or at a symbolic price, with delivery costs covered by Avito. The list of most in-demand items was compiled with the participation of RRC volunteers, based on the needs expressed by affected people. It includes clothing, hygiene products, items for children, household goods and small household appliances.

The Russian Red Cross has been engaged in humanitarian response to the flooding in Dagestan since the onset of the emergency. In the first days, the RRC Dagestan regional branch evacuated more than 250 people. Support was also provided for the cleaning and sanitation of the Khasavyurt Central City Hospital. The RRC staff and volunteers, including psychologists, are working in temporary accommodation centers, delivering humanitarian aid and providing psychological support. In addition, a shipment of humanitarian supplies, including disinfectants and antiseptics, has been sent to the Botayurt Central District Hospital. Overall, over 300 volunteers of the RRC are currently involved in the response in Dagestan.

The Russian Red Cross launched a nationwide fundraising campaign to support people affected by flooding.
