The Russian Red Cross team (RRC) delivered a total of 15 tons of humanitarian aid to the local population on Tuesday, September 12, due to the difficult humanitarian situation in Karabakh and the approaching cold weather in the region. The humanitarian aid included personal hygiene items, food and bedding. It is now being unloaded and distribution will begin shortly.
“The RRC humanitarian mission is carried out at the request of the local population upon receipt of all necessary approvals of readiness to accept assistance. Today, our team brought 15 tons of food, hygiene items and bedding to Karabakh and will soon begin distributing them. We hope that our mission will contribute to improvement of the humanitarian situation and opening of the Lachin corridor in the near future, which will secure humanitarian supplies to be delivered via both routes. The RRC team will come back to Russia after the completion of the humanitarian aid,” commented Pavel Savchuk, President of the Russian Red Cross.
The request for humanitarian assistance to the population in the region remains urgent. In its decision to provide humanitarian support to the population of Karabakh, the RRC is guided by the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the commitment of humanitarian organizations to provide assistance where it is needed.
“The Russian Red Cross is guided by a humanitarian imperative and believes that it is its duty to help all people, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs and so on,” Pavel Savchuk concluded.
