The Russian Red Cross is assisting Sverdlovsk region residents affected by inundation. Currently relief work is mainly focused on meeting the urgent needs: distribution of basic necessities and bedding and targeted support of older people and people with restricted mobility.
The region has been hit by heavy rainfall and floods since late June. From the very first days, as soon as a state of emergency was introduced, the Sverdlovsk regional branch of the Russian Red Cross joined disaster response efforts in the most affected districts. Assistance is provided in close coordination with the Sverdlovsk region government, municipal authorities and regional emergency services.
Russian Red Cross staff and volunteers visit affected areas and temporary accommodation points on a regular basis to identify the needs and respond with targeted assistance. So far over 500 bedding kits have been purchased including folding beds, matrasses, pillows, blankets and bedclothes. Over 500 complete food packages and hygiene kits are being delivered to remote settlements. Rehabilitation equipment and other vital medical goods are supplied upon request for individuals with restricted mobility; older people are provided with special nutrition. RRC volunteer psychologists are on standby: assistance can be requested through the psychological first aid hotline, by visiting the regional branch and local branches or in the process of humanitarian aid distribution.
Further action will be coordinated with the regional emergency response center and will include recovery work and drying out of residential buildings primarily for single elderly and disabled people. A stock of equipment and appliances is being accumulated right now to include electric generator units, blow heaters and flood pumps.
Humanitarian aid is provided from the funds mobilized during the targeted fundraising campaign launched by the Russian Red Cross nationwide in March 2026 to assist flood victims.
Recently the Sverdlovsk regional RRC branch took quick action to support hurricane-affected families in the region’s Kushva district by distributing more than 50 sets of bedclothes, blankets and pillows as well as hygiene kits and food packages.
