As part of the educational internship programme implemented by the Red Cross Academy, medical professionals and social workers could upgrade their qualifications and share experiences with international colleagues. Since 2023, more than 500 specialists have completed internships at leading domestic and foreign medical institutions: National Medical Research Centres of the Russian Ministry of Health, Istanbul Medeniyet University, Dejazmach Balcha Hospital in Ethiopia, Soroka University Medical Centre in Israel, and the China International Elderly Service Industry Exhibition.
The aim of the programme is to involve highly qualified specialists in volunteer work for the Russian Red Cross; to develop an expert community of medical and social workers within the humanitarian organisation; and to expand partnerships between the National Medical Research Centres, regional healthcare institutions and regional branches of the Russian Red Cross.
"Thanks to these internships, our specialists get to know innovative methods of diagnostics and treatment, gain experience from colleagues in other countries, and come back home with fresh ideas and best practices for saving lives. For us, this is an important tool for training a new generation of specialists prepared to effectively deal with challenges facing modern medicine and help people who find themselves in difficult life situations," emphasised Maria Mukhina, Executive Director of the Russian Red Cross.
The programme has been implemented as part of the federal project ‘Supporting the Russian Red Cross Work’. The internships were conducted in person, remotely and in a hybrid format, individually and in groups. During the training, the experts were able to gain new knowledge and enhance practical skills in various areas of medical and social work. The Russian Red Cross provided full funding for the internships, including training, transport costs and accommodation. This helped specialists to stay fully focused on developing new competencies.
