More than 80 teams of schoolchildren from all over Russia took part in the finals of the All-Russian First Aid Championship of the Movement of the First co-organized by the Russian Red Cross (RRC). The event was held at the International Sambo Center of the Luzhniki Olympic Stadium. The participants from Orenburg Region were nominated the best first aid team.
The All-Russian Youth Civic Organization “The Russian Students’ Rescue Corps” and The All-Russian Civic Movement of Health Volunteers “Medical Volunteers” are partners of this project. The participants were tested in three contests: for their theoretical expertise in first aid and for their hands-on skills in two case tests.
“The finals of the First Aid Championship bring the final line to all our activities that we have held throughout 2023. The RRC have already trained hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren and university students across Russia in first aid skills. The strongest teams have now gathered in Moscow. Despite their young age, the competition participants are ready to provide first aid to their peers, parents and passers-by should there be a need. It’s great that children are interested in doing this, trying their hand at it, that they are ready to improve the knowledge and skills they have already acquired as well as to learn new things, something that can come in really useful in their life. For us, the Championship is a great opportunity to check the quality of expertise that we provide to children and how they take in this information,” said Pavel Savchuk, President of the Russian Red Cross, Chairman of Commission for Volunteer and Youth Policy of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.
The school teams represented their respective schools as well as their victories in the regional stages of the RRC First Aid Championship. The regional stages ran from September through October 2023, and the representatives of over 80 regions qualified for the finals. Each team comprised 6 participants: 5 children aged 14-17 years that attended the first aid master classes and a captain-teacher.
The best team was granted the honorary title, the Cup of the Movement of the First and a certificate for a 4-day trip from the traveling program “More Than a Travel”. All participants received personal Participant Certificates and branded first aid kits.
