More than 300 people injured in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall received support from the Russian Red Cross
      05.07.2024

Three months after the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall near Moscow, more than 300 people received help fr om the Russian Red Cross (RRC), the country’s oldest humanitarian organization. Many applicants received not just one type of support, but several ones: material and voucher assistance, psychological support, payment for sanatorium treatment and others.

Since March 22, 2024, 97 families have received urgent financial assistance from the Russian Red Cross. Moreover, the first payments were scheduled on March 27, the fifth day after the tragedy.

“RRC began to help people in a proactive format. The day after the meeting of the Special Commission, which took place on March 27, our specialists contacted the most vulnerable affected families to whom assistance was prioritized even if people did not know wh ere to ask for necessary help,” said President of Russian Red Cross Pavel Savchuk.

Almost 250 more families received voucher assistance for the purchase of food and medicine. The face value of each voucher is 10 thousand rubles, and people could buy what they needed with them.

In addition, 95 victims of the terrorist attack received free psychological support from specialists and volunteers of the Russian Red Cross, and 21 of them submitted requests for individual psychological support. In just two weeks since the tragedy, over 2 thousand people received first psychological aid and psychosocial support on the RRC hotline.

“We understood that we could not leave people alone with fear, anxiety and grief. We received calls not only from victims and their loved ones, but also from people not directly affected by the tragedy, but in need of psychological support. From March 22 to April 5, over 2 thousand people received help on the RRC hotline,” shared the President of Russian Red Cross.

Also, the Russian Red Cross has already begun to provide long-term support measures to those affected by the tragedy at Crocus City Hall, their family members and loved ones of the victims. In particular 187 people received one-time payments, the size of which varies from 200 thousand to 5 million rubles.

The RRC paid for another 10 applicants to undergo sanatorium and resort treatment in Russia. This type of assistance is available to family members of victims and victims undergoing in-patient treatment. The RRC is also ready to provide assistance in rehabilitation to victims who, as a result of the tragedy, have been assigned a disability group.

We continue to accept applications for assistance from families whose children have lost one or both parents. At the moment specialists of the Russian Red Cross have accepted 50 applications for opening bank deposits. According to Pavel Savchuk, “The RRC is working with the banking sector so that children who have lost their parents receive the most favorable conditions for deposits.”

In addition, two more families, in which children have lost one or both parents, applied to the RRC for help in purchasing their only housing.
