Leaders of 12 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have adopted the Moscow Resolution
      09.11.2022

Leaders of 12 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies adopted the Moscow Resolution initiated by the Russian Red Cross (RRC), Russia's oldest humanitarian organization. The document aims at preventing and relieving human suffering, protecting human life and health, and respecting human beings, especially in time of armed conflicts and other emergencies.

The Resolution was adopted at the Moscow meeting of leaders of the National Societies of Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The resolution will help in developing and improving mechanisms of cooperation in the field of humanitarian assistance, psychosocial support, emergency response and other priority areas of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

“By adopting the Moscow Resolution following the meeting, we express our desire to work together to carry out our mission - to prevent and alleviate human suffering. This is especially so in times of armed conflicts and other emergencies. The Resolution will help us as National Societies to cooperate even more closely and, most importantly, to help each other. For example, in case of large-scale emergencies occurring on the territory of a state, whose National Society is a participant of the Resolution, each of the Resolution supporters will be able to offer and render assistance,” Pavel Savchuk, President of the Russian Red Cross, commented.

The Moscow Resolution follows universally recognized principles and norms of international law, fundamental documents of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and other agreements, adopted by the Movement in the field of humanitarian diplomacy, assistance and protection of human life, health and human beings, especially in times of crisis.

According to Pavel Savchuk, “the adoption of the Moscow Resolution at the meeting was an important act, which once again demonstrated the unity of views of all participants as to modern challenges, joint ways of their prevention and response.” “Our intent is to further improve and develop cooperation to provide help, strengthen support for youth, gender balance, inclusiveness, as well as digitalization and innovation, using our long-term experience. I hope that from now on such meetings will become traditional, and we will keep on cooperating to help even more people,” Pavel Savchuk concluded.
