Emergency operating room at Kursk regional hospital equipped with new equipment by the Russian Red Cross
      21.03.2025

In the Kursk Regional Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital, modern equipment has been installed in the emergency operating room, a critical facility that receives patients in severe condition fr om across the region. This operating room has been fully equipped through the support of the Russian Red Cross (RRC), which facilitated the delivery of cutting-edge equipment valued at over 38 million rubles. This advancement will enable surgeons to enhance both the quality of surgical procedures, accelerate preoperating diagnosis, and improve real-time monitoring of patients’ conditions during emergency surgeries.

The key element of the new operating room is a high-definition X-ray C-arc, enabling trauma surgeries to be performed under continuous X-ray control. This technology allows medical professionals to detect the smallest foreign bodies and bone fragments in real time – a capability of paramount importance in emergency surgery. Additional modern equipment includes:
an operating table, which is equipped with a modular system and electrically adjustable positioning, offering versality for a wide range of surgical procedures. Furthermore, there is
a shadowless lamp, featuring precise control over light flow and intensity, as well as an integrated camera and monitor, this lamp enables the live broadcast of operating field. This functionality is vital for both quality assurance in medical care and training of young specialists.

“The emergency operating unit is a place wh ere doctors must make decisions in a matter of seconds, and modern equipment plays a decisive role in determining surgical outcomes. The equipment list for this delivery was developed in collaboration with the regional Ministry of Health and medical professionals, tailored to address the immediate challenges faced by doctors amid heightened strain on the healthcare system due to the ongoing emergency situation. This operating room empowers surgeons to handle the smallest foreign particles and fragments, perform surgeries for patients of all ages - from adults to newborns- and train new specialists using real-time clinical case broadcasts”, emphasized the significance of this initiative, President of the Russian Red Cross, Pavel Savchuk.

The operating room now includes a fully equipped anesthesiologist workstation featuring a universal anesthesia machine suitable for patients of all ages, including newborns. Another critical addition is an expert-grade ultrasound device, which allows for immediate patient examination within the operating room, saving invaluable time in critical scenarios

“Thanks to the additional surgical, anesthesiological-resuscitation, and radiological equipment in the emergency operating room, we anticipate an increase in surgical interventions across specialities such as neurosurgery, oral surgery and urology.”, said Acting Minister of Health of the Kursk region.

This initiative marks the completion of the RRC’s medical equipment supply project, undertaken at the request of the Kursk Region’s Ministry of Health, with a total investment of 50 million rubles. Previously, RRC reported that a high-tech microscope worth 12 million rubles was installed in the Kursk Ophthalmological Center, which is currently being used in the center’s surgical unit, enabling complex operations with exceptional precision.

Additionally, the Russian Red Cross is providing targeted humanitarian assistance to medical workers and their families in the Kursk region as part of its comprehensive emergency response measures. Since August 2024, RRC has provided material support to over 700 children from families of healthcare employees evacuated from border areas of the Kursk region. The President of the Union of the Medical Community “National Medical Chamber”, organized fundraising and received unanimous support from all NMC members. More than 10 million rubles of the 14.18 million payments were raised through donations and the remaining funds were provided by the Russian Red Cross.
