Emergency response specialists from Russian Red Cross (RRC), the country's oldest humanitarian organization, have begun providing assistance to flood victims in Omsk region. More than 105 tons of vegetables and more than 1,100 hygiene kits will be distributed among those in need. The RRC team will also begin drying out houses damaged by flooding.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, 529 residential buildings and 1,000 household plots remain flooded in the region.
Specialists and volunteers of Russian Red Cross are working on the site, including representatives from Kaluga and Sverdlovsk regions, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Krasnoyarsk Territory and Voronezh region.
“Our specialists, in coordination with the administration of Omsk region and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, are working in the region and are providing assistance to people affected by floods, including the ones in remote areas and settlements of the region. 1,000 families will receive humanitarian food assistance - each family will receive 105 kilograms of vegetables. In addition, we purchased and delivered 1,110 hygiene kits for adults and children of the region,” – said the President of Russian Red Cross, Pavel Savchuk, noting that those who, for one reason or another, cannot come for humanitarian aid on their own, especially need help. It will be delivered to them directly, including to remote settlements cut off by water.
The total volume of humanitarian food aid includes over 30 tons of potatoe, 22 tons of onion and carrot, and more than 27 tons of cabbage. The distribution has already begun. In addition to food and hygiene kits, the RRC team will donate 100 sets of bedding and 100 beds to equip temporary accommodation centers.
To dry houses damaged by the flood, Russian Red Cross transported 50 heat guns, 15 generators, 80 canisters and other necessary equipment from Orsk. The work will begin in the village of Slobodchiki, Ust-Ishim district, Omsk region.
For the procurement of humanitarian aid and its logistics, Russian Red Cross is actively raising funds through its Emergency Response Fund, which allows a rapid response to disasters. Thanks to the Fund, RRC can additionally accumulate the necessary resources for a quick and effective response to disasters, accumulate financial reserves, humanitarian aid, equip warehouses with the necessary equipment, and emergency response teams with equipment and uniforms.
The funds are used to help emergency victims throughout the country, including to meet the needs of flood victims in Omsk region.
