President of the Russian Red Cross (RRC) Pavel Savchuk discussed the most effective assistance to victims of the Ukrainian crisis with President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Francesco Rocca. The meeting took place at the 11th European Regional Conference of the Heads of 54 European and Central Asian National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The XI European Regional Conference of the Heads of the European and Central Asian National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies took place in Tbilisi from 26 to 28 April 2022. It was attended by representatives of 54 National Societies, as well as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Pavel Savchuk, RRC President, at a meeting with Francesco Rocca, IFRC President, Jagan Chapagain, IFRC Secretary General, and Kerem Kinik, IFRC Vice-President for Europe spoke in detail about the work of the Russian Red Cross in supporting refugees from the territories of Ukraine and Donbass. The leadership of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies positively evaluated the assistance to the victims of the Ukrainian crisis.
Pavel Savchuk also spoke at a panel discussion on "Special Agenda: the conflict in Ukraine and its impact on neighboring countries." He told about the Russian Red Cross activities aimed at supporting refugees in Russia.
"Colleagues from all National Societies help us resolve problems of political and humanitarian crises. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement works only with humanitarian issues and tries to do its best to help all those affected by the Ukrainian conflict," Pavel Savchuk said after the panel discussion.
During the conference the Russian Red Cross also held a series of meetings with Heads of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The RRC President discussed the Ukrainian crisis, migration, public health, and climate change with the Heads of National Societies of Spain, Norway, Denmark, France, Croatia, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, America, and Turkey.
Head of the French Red Cross, Philippe Da Costa, pointed out that Russian and French cultures are very close, so these countries would like "to develop mutual cooperation and work together both bilaterally and within the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies."
During the meeting with Pavel Savchuk, Michael Adamson, Executive Director of the British Red Cross, expressed his willingness to cooperate on fundraising issues.
