      Almost 26,000 residents from the Kursk region receive assistance from the Russian Red Cross

      Over the last week, 25,959 residents fr om the Kursk region received assistance from the Russian Red Cross (the RRC). Namely, more than 15,000 people received humanitarian aid and more than 10,000 evacuated individuals were provided with psychological assistance. Pavel Savchuk, the President of the RRC commented on the issue at the meeting with Andrei Belostotsky, Acting Deputy Governor of the Kursk region.

      Since August 7, 2024 there has been declared a state of emergency in the Kursk region. It was announced by the acting governor Alexei SMIRNOV. The massive attack on the Kursk region began on August 6. On the territory of the region there was repeatedly announced a missile danger regime. There are casualties. Some people have been evacuated and relocated to temporary accommodation points (TAPs).

      During the operational meeting Pavel SAVCHUK and Andrei BELOSTOTSKY discussed the current support measures for the victims of shelling. In particular, they agreed to strengthen the coordination between the RRC and regional authorities for a prompter response to the needs of the suffered population.

      “The Russian Red Cross continues to provide comprehensive assistance to the victims in the Kursk region. Since the beginning of the emergency 15,731 people have already received humanitarian aid. And we are bolstering our efforts. All the individuals who contacted us receive large sets of food, hygiene products, bedding, clothes, as well as over-the-counter medicines upon request. In close cooperation with regional authorities and specialized agencies, we are doing our best to support all those who need our help”, commented the President of the Russian Red Cross, Pavel SAVCHUK.

      In his turn, Andrei BELOSTOTSKY highlighted that “In the current situation, it is especially important to provide assistance to everyone who needs it. The Russian Red Cross has demonstrated that it is capable of reacting as promptly and effectively as possible”.

      “Since the first days of the emergency, the RRC was involved in the work, demonstrating its readiness and ability to provide qualified assistance at a high level. The organization not only has the necessary resources, but also considerable experience, which allows it to promptly solve comprehensive challenges. We are grateful to our colleagues for their profession attitude and contribution to supporting the affected residents from the Kursk region”, accentuated Andrei BELOSTOTSKY.

      During his field visit to the Kursk region, Pavel SAVCHUK also visited the RRC Kursk regional branch, from wh ere the humanitarian aid is distributed on a regular basis.

      As of today, about 70 RRC staff members and volunteers, including representatives of the nationwide emergency response team, are engaged in the Kursk region. The RRC representatives regularly visit temporary accommodation points to register all the needs for the TAPs’ residents. The group of volunteers has already visited 31 TAPs. The special attention is also paid to providing temporary accommodation points with household appliances. The first batch of equipment has already been delivered to the TAPs, including washing machines, microwave ovens, refrigerators, electric kettles, blood pressure monitors, and other necessities. In total, more than 700 units of household appliances and household items have been delivered to the TAPs.

      Beyond that, the RRC continues to receive requests to trace for missing relatives. The hotline is available 24/7 via telephone number 8 800 250 56 29. All residents of the region who have lost contact with their loved ones, can contact the hotline.

      Since the crisis outbreak in the Kursk region, 10,228 people, including 1,476 children, have received psychological assistance from the RRC. This work is carried out both in temporary accommodation points and on the basis of the RRC regional branch in Kursk. The work of the federal hotline for psychological assistance has also been boosted. Anyone in need can contact the hotline via telephone number 8 800 250-18-59.

      As of August 15, 2024, the Russian Red Cross has collected over RUB 120 million to help the affected residents from the Kursk region. Anyone can make a donation to help the affected residents of the Kursk region by clicking the link or by the following bank details.
