Every year, almost 100 people with disabilities receive assistance from the Regional Branches of the Russian Red Cross (RRC), Russia's oldest humanitarian organisation. Similar projects are implemented in Krasnoyarsk region, the Republic of Tyva and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region.
In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the project "Overcome Together" was launched in 2022. As part of this project, 42 families with people with disabilities or self-care deficits were constantly worked with.
"Now, after the formal end of the project, we continue to work with these families. Families who applied to us in 2023 are also receiving assistance. Now the Regional Branches has about 20 families with children with disabilities and about 30 families with adults with disabilities on permanent service" – Olga Kalugina, Chair of the Yamalo-Nenets Regional Branches of the RRC.
Employees and volunteers from the Regional Branches of the RRC in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region accompany people in need to medical centres. The Regional Branch also holds workshops on kinship care, first aid and self-help. In addition, in case of a request, carers are sought, and legal, humanitarian and psychological assistance is provided, as well as help in resolving household issues.
In the Republic of Tyva, those in need can also receive assistance in travelling to and from medical facilities. In 2022, 56 elderly people received such support.
In 2023, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Branch of the Russian Red Cross held master classes for people with disabilities on prevention of pressure sores and contractures. The workshops were attended by 23 people.
"We also run workshops on kinship care for loved ones in need. Over 3,000 people attended such training during the year.
